Weebly provides a better web-building experience for entrepreneurs and small business owners. I had the opportunity to work on several projects including mobile onboarding and abandoned cart emails.

Mobile

I worked with the mobile team at the start of the internship. My main project was to redesign the onboarding experience for Android and iOS. The team had done research showing that ~75% of first time users were closing the app after launch. After observing the current onboarding process, we had 3 design goals for the new experience. We had to engage the user immediately, allow them to sign up or log in at any point, and highlight the features of the app.

Design Goals

1. Engage the user immediately
2. Allow them to sign up or log in at any point
3. Highlight the features of the app

Although exploration A met design goals 1 and 2, it didn’t express the features of the app to the user.

Design Goals

1. Engage the user immediately
2. Allow them to sign up or log in at any point
3. Highlight the features of the app

Exploration B met all three design goals. It engaged the user, fell into line with our bold rebranding, and gave an abstract expression of the functionality of the app. After presenting this to the team, it was handed off to the development team to build. The result was a 125% increase in user retention during the mobile onboarding process.

It still stands as the current onboarding experience. Check it out here.

eCommerce

After Mobile, I worked with the eCommerce team on building features and tools that would be launched with Weebly 4. ECommerce serves a huge portion of Weebly users who are entrepreneurs and small-business owners. I was tasked with leading the design of Abandoned Cart Emails, the second highest request feature by users after Real Time Shipping. This included laying out the user dashboard and the email layout the users would receive once they added items in a cart, but didn’t continue to purchase them.

Brand

After handing off Abandoned Cart Emails to the developers on eCommerce, I moved the Brand team to help create and push assets for the company’s new “BOLD” rebrand. I worked on advertisements, partner landing pages, icons, Weebly Cloud redesign, and emails. Under the Brand team, I was allowed the creative freedom to explore several different design directions.

Education

While exploring some of Weebly’s different verticals, I stumbled upon the Weebly Education page. It looked like it hadn’t been redesigned in years – 7 years to be exact. It desperately needed an update, so I decided to dedicate some time doing a redesign proposal for the page. It was also an opportunity to use Weebly’s new design process for this project, starting from scope to high fidelity.

Creative

As a creativity project, I was given the Weebly Mobile Apps page to redesign. The exercise was to design it in a style completely different from the framework to show a creative exploration of a potential redesign.
